Your Child's 1st Eye Exam
 |
When should you have your
child's vision checked?
Your child should have his/her eyes examined as early as
possible.
If there
is no history of family eye
problems, child appears normal,
and
doesn’t exhibit any eye
problems I recommend the
exam
at
age three(3) or four(4)
|
|
Why does my child need an eye exam
if
everything appears fine?
You must remember that the child
doesn’t know
what good vision really is!
If everything is fuzzy,
distorted or
blurred this is to be normal vision
for
the child, even if we know as parents that this isn’t.
To him/her fuzzy vision is
what everybody else is seeing.

|
 |
Why do you recommend at such an
early age?
Why not wait till my child notices a vision problem?
The eye develops at an early age and if a problem
exist and is not corrected prior to a certain age,
(around age 3-4 years) vision may
never be fully correctable.
The result is poor performance in everyday activities. Also we can
detect early cataract, eye cancer, lazy eye and more.
|
My Child just had a vision screening
at school.
Doesn’t this count as an Eye Exam?
NO! NO! NO!
NO! NO! NO!
NO! NO! NO!
School vision screenings are just that.
It is a tool to screen children for vision impairment.
Many children still pass these test but have difficulties reading or
comprehending.
Please have your child's eyes examined at a
early age.
If you have any family history of lazy eye or eye diseases or family members wearing glasses PLEASE do the child a favor and get his/her
eyes examined by a eye care professional.
