When
Can I Wear
Contact
Lenses? |
|
|
A lot of questions I receive is "Doctor, When can my
daughter or son wear contact lenses"? I tell most of
my patients that each case is unique. My youngest patient I
have fitted with gas permeable lenses 21 years ago was a
five (5) year old and she was my best patient as of today.
These are questions I ask the Child and Parents:
1. Is your child mature enough to wear contacts? (parent)
2. Why do you want to wear contact lenses? Is it for sports
or just because I don't like to wear glasses
(Child)
3. Does the child want to wear contacts or the Parents?
(both)
4. Do you have back up pair of glasses? (Child)
Normally if you are new to wearing
glasses my recommendation is to wear glasses for the first
few months and then think about being fitted for contacts.
